Gem of the Jewels

During an early morning scroll through our Instagram feed we happily treated ourselves to a private showing of the luxurious pieces from Christie's New York 'Magnificent Jewels' auction which took place at Rockefeller Centre earlier in the week.

A fine selection to choose from, we were speechless with some of the detailed and delicate designs, each piece more unique than the last.

We rounded up our favourite rings and one spectacular brooch which stole the ever so sparkly show, because who says you can't indulge in a little bit of online shopping in your PJ's on an early morning?!

Paul Flato Brooch

First up is the Paul Flato aquamarine and diamond brooch, a fabulous piece for just popping on with your evening dress and hitting the town like it's circa 1940's Hollywood. A well-known jeweller to the stars and socialites of New York throughout the 1930's and 1940's, Paul Flato's innovative and luxurious designs were adorned by movie stars Rita Hayworth and Greta Garbo, as well as countless icons from the era. Whimsical jewels became his speciality and everything from compacts to bracelets featuring diamonds and rubies became part of his imaginative jewellery collections.

Still mesmerised by our visit into the Royal's Cartier jewellery box last week, we had diamonds in our eyes when we saw this fabulous ring. A show stopping piece, it features one 2.85-carat pear shaped fancy intense pink diamond and another 2.42 carat pear shape fancy vivid blue diamond. Each generously sized stone is accentuated by a fine selection of baguette diamonds and set in a platinum band. In love with it as much as we are? It is a real steal at only $4.5 million dollars....

Soaring above its pre-sale estimate, this jaw-dropping ring features a 3.09 carat rectangular-cut fancy intense blue diamond with a spectacular VS1 clarity.  Set in platinum and complemented by a single tapered baguette diamond either side, this lovely trinket sold for the small sum of just $5 million dollars! If this isn't quite within your price range we are happy to help with our beautiful diamond and aquamarine ring of similar style!

JAR DIAMOND Thread RING

If coloured gemstones aren't catching your eye then this 22.76 carat elongated oval diamond should do just the trick! With fabulous colour and clarity (D, VVS1), this beautiful ring features some of the finest pavé work we have ever seen. Given JAR is famously known for his needlepoint precision and detailed pavé arrangements, it is no surprise the spectacular creation sold for $2.8 million dollars. It features a platinum and diamond set two-tiered shank, aptly named as the "Thread" ring due to the lightness of the setting.

The piece was originally sold by Christie's in 2006 from the collection of Ellen Barkin and made its way back to be sold by the famous auction house yet again, this time to benefit an arts fund which assists in reforming the United States justice system.

Joel Arthur Rosenthal opened his exclusive appointment only jewellery boutique in 1978 where he produces less than 100 handcrafted jewels every year. The New York born jeweller has been called the single greatest jeweller of our time and is known for his finest-quality, custom designed, collectable pieces. The JAR Paris boutique remains as his only store and his one-of-a-kind designs are known to be extremely rare.

Pink Diamond Ring

The 8.42 carat fancy intense pink diamond ring came in at the second highest sale of the day in the range of $5 million dollars. A very fine sight to behold, the diamond is VVS1 clarity and potentially internally flawless. Tapered baguette diamonds draw your eye into fine rose gold claws, a design which is very popular in complementing pink diamonds. You can replicate this look at a fraction of the cost with one of our newest diamond rings!

If that lovely collection of sparkling jewellery wasn't enough to fulfil your inner Elizabeth Taylor, be sure to take a look through the gallery of pieces below which were featured at Christie's Magnificent Jewels auction!
